Highlights
from Around the Triangle
Raleigh -April
was not a good month for sports radio in the
Triangle as WCMC-FM AQH ratings fell to
their lowest level since August, 2012. The
sports station dipped in both Men and Adults
25-54 and fell to 11th place in weekly
M25-54 cume. Sister sports station WDNC-AM
fell out of the Top-25 in both AQH and cume
M25-54.
After a year-long
slide in Adults 25-54, WKSL-FM inched up in
both AQH and cume in the month of April. The
station has struggled in a three-way format
battle with Clear Channel sibling WDCG and
Curtis Media's WPLW-FM.

Cha...Cha...Cha...Changes
April offers our first look at the Triangle
radio market after major programming changes
in March. Buyers should pay close attention
as some formats and call letters have swapped.
·
"Rush Radio" WRDU-FM (106.1) became WTKK with
the identical line-up of Right-leaning
syndication including Glenn Beck, Rush
Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
·
Classic "Hits" WRVA-FM (100.7) released
morning host Kitty Kinnin and took on a
harder, older, male edge to become Classic
Rock "WRDU".
·
WFXC-FM dropped top-rated afternoon
personality Michael Baisden, and overall
weekly AQH Adults dropped to its lowest level
in a year.
·
WRAL-FM transitioned from 24-year morning host
Bill Jordan to a temporary replacement in AM
Drive and the AQH Rating for Adults 25-54 has
trended upward to holiday levels.
NOTE: Buyers using trends should make careful
note of the changes in call letters and
formats. |

Market Leaders |
|
Once
again in April, the top-5 stations with AQH
Adults 25-54 were WQDR-FM (Country), WFXC-FM
(Urban AC), WDCG-FM (CHR) , WBBB-FM (Adult
Hits) and WRAL-FM (AC). These stations have
remained consistently top-ranked since December
with just some slight reshuffling. The same
call letters occupied the Top-5 in Morning Drive
with WBBB and WFXC tied for first place in
April's book. |

Urban
Market is Segmenting
Urban Adult Contemporary WBZJ-FM is the
fastest-growing radio station in the Triangle
having exceeded the 100,000 weekly cume mark
(Total Persons 6+) in just its third full month
on the air. Making that feat even more
astounding is that the station targets a
population that makes up roughly 22% of all
persons living in the market. As is often the
case with a new format entry, other Urban
stations in the market experienced increased
listening as well. |
